Dr. Frances Markland, Educational and Child Psychologist, HCPC Reg Practitioner Psychologist
"You can't develop a tool to measure the progress made from attending school based art therapy if there is not yet any evidence to say what areas of outcome can be achieved. How will you know what to measure?"
In 2011 Frances Markland completed her doctoral research entitled, 'The effectiveness of school based art therapy for children who have experienced psychological trauma.' During this seminar she will discuss the process of conducting this research and what the findings demonstrated about why and how school based art therapy was found to be an effective intervention for children who have experienced trauma. She will discuss how the findings from this research have provided the initial information about 'what to measure' when assessing progress in school based art therapy. The potential for further research to develop a research tool to measure progress in school based art therapy will be discussed.
